Bitcoiners in Hong-Kong have come up with a new way to spread awareness of Bitcoin on a large scale.
Starting September 11, three double-decker trams decorated in Bitcoin messaging are running concurrently through the streets of Hong-Kong, bearing facts and slogans aimed at educating people about BTC.
Earlier in August, the well-known digital currency hedge fund Grayscale also did a massive educational campaign on Bitcoin in the US.
Bitcoin Trams in Hong-Kong
The educational campaign, launched by the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong, will also see 20 giant billboards erected at various public locations on the island. The trams themselves will be decorated from front to back with the Bitcoin logo and will run on various routes for the next four weeks.
The campaign focuses partly on conveying the importance of scarcity and how it relates to a healthy monetary policy. One billboard which is to be erected references the incredible extent of US money-printing in 2020 following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. It states:
“More U.S. Dollars have been printed in 2020 than were in existence in 2009. There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin.”
Another billboard contains a quote by American writer, Stewart Brand, which warns that those who don’t get on board when a new technology comes around often get flattened by it.
“Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road.”
A Rapidly Digitizing Global Economy
The post, which announced the event on a well-known local publication, said the Bitcoin community hopes to start a conversation about how the cryptocurrency can play a role in supplying the economic infrastructure for a new, rapidly digitizing global marketplace. It stated:
“We hope the campaign will give us the opportunity to discuss how Bitcoin fits into a quickly digitizing global economy, the opportunities and dangers of drastic technological advancements and the implications of digital, verifiable scarcity.”
The trams will also bare such hashtags and slogans #BeYourOwnBank, #DigitalGold, #GlobalInternetMoney, and even #MagicInternetMoney. Hong-Kong’s special position as a somewhat autonomous capitalist region within China’s socialist nation makes the island well-suited to delivering Bitcoin’s message.
